2025 presented two major questions for dancehall lovers: Is dancehall once again moving toward the mainstream? And does a broad audience still crave its sound?
Just before the end of the year, and as we continue reviewing the standout artists and defining moments that gave hope to the genre, one thing is clear: dancehall is on its way forward.
Vybz Kartel - The Undisputed King of Dancehall Makes a Historic Return
Vybz Kartel’s return to the scene was the defining highlight of 2025. His blockbuster Worl' Boss tour marked a historic moment for dancehall, one that left fans with big questions, and even bigger excitement, about how far the genre could have gone had its most influential figure not been absent for the previous 13 years.
From prestigious European stages to sold-out venues everywhere, Kartel reminded the world why he remains a staple of Jamaican music. His return didn’t just reignite excitement for his own career, it pushed the entire genre forward, lifting the energy around dancehall and inspiring a new wave of momentum among other artists.

Masicka - A Dominant Year and Commanding Status
Masicka may be making a claim for the crown, but what’s undeniable is that he delivered one of his most powerful years to date. Riding the momentum of his two masterful albums and the 2024 smash hit “Whites,” the deejay stormed into 2025 with dominant chart-toppers like “Rich Sex,” “Autocrat,” and the viral favorite “Mute.”
He also made his debut on the Wireless stage and closed the year with a ladies-focused project that debuted at #1 on the iTunes Albums chart - with every track entering the charts, further cementing his elite run.
Valiant - Sharpening the Tools with Tours and Hits
Since bursting onto the scene just before Christmas 2022, Valiant has shown no signs of slowing down. The ladies’ favorite continued his momentum with another standout year, one marked by growth, sharpening his sound, and elevating his brand.
With hits like “Passenger Princess,” now surpassing 24 million views, Valiant doubled down on positioning himself as one of dancehall’s most marketable young stars. He made a strong debut at City Splash in the UK, delivered a surprising performance at Notting Hill Carnival, and achieved a historic milestone with his North American tour, selling over 10,000 tickets across multiple cities in the U.S and Canada.

Bounty Killer - The Warlord Is Back on U.S. and Canadian Soil Dancehall legend Bounty Killer has fully regained his appetite. With his U.S. visa restored after 15 years, The General stepped back onto international stages with a renewed fire. A historic performance at Barclays Center, a return to Canada after two decades, with another sold-out show reaffirmed his status as a cultural giant.
His year was further crowned by a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Caribbean Music Awards, an honor that underscored his enduring impact on the genre. Hungry as ever, it will be interesting to see how Bounty Killer carries this momentum into 2026, but one thing is certain: the year he delivered cannot be overlooked.

It was also a solid year for standout acts across the board. Popcaan delivered a strong project and a string of overseas shows, while Alkaline took his flagship New Rules event to the UK and Canada before bringing it back home to Jamaica, all in the midst of his debut at Barclays Center.
Skippa and Armanii stepped firmly into the forefront, and Shenseea continued cementing her global presence with major stage shows and placements on international movie soundtracks. Meanwhile, legends like Elephant Man, Sizzla, and Beenie Man returned to U.S. soil, Aidonia reignited his presence in the UK, and overall, the genre enjoyed a vibrant and undeniable run.
These achievements weren’t just standout moments from the past 12 months, they reflect the genre’s evolving landscape and the shifts shaping its next chapter.
