The Adidja Palmer Foundation (APF), spearheaded by dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, has amplified humanitarian support across the communities of St. Elizabeth and St. James, two of the hardest-hit parishes following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.
The foundation delivered a 40-foot container packed with more than 12,000 bottles of water, 1,500 loaves of bread, and other essential supplies. Working alongside World Central Kitchen (WCK), APF volunteers helped clear debris, distribute items, and support the serving of 3,500 hot meals to families in urgent need.
One of the most emotional moments came during a visit to a remote children’s home in the hills, housing 70 disabled children. APF representatives described the encounter as “heartbreaking.”
“It broke our hearts, but strengthened our resolve,” the foundation’s press statement noted. “This is not a one-time effort; this is a long-term commitment to our Jamaica.”
Looking ahead, the Adidja Palmer Foundation is transitioning from crisis response to structured rebuilding. The organization outlined several targeted initiatives, including adopting one children’s home and rebuilding the roof of another, as well as establishing a women and children’s shelter, a soup kitchen, and a dedicated counseling area for mental-health support.
In addition to aiding infrastructure repairs, APF will help restore a basic school and partner with local stakeholders to rebuild St. Elizabeth, long regarded as Jamaica’s agricultural parish.
With these efforts now underway, the foundation says its focus will remain on restoring dignity, strengthening community systems, and ensuring vulnerable Jamaicans are protected long after the immediate crisis has passed. “Each one, help one. Nothing is too small if it means we are rebuilding,” they echoed.
