The Jamaica Basketball Association (JABA) has announced a landmark partnership with adidas, securing the first apparel sponsorship agreement in the history of Jamaican national basketball. Brokered by Business 2 Sports Group, the deal marks a significant milestone for both Jamaican basketball and the wider Caribbean sporting landscape.

Under the agreement, adidas will serve as the official kit and apparel partner of the Jamaica Men’s National Basketball Team. In another historic first, the national team’s jerseys and merchandise will also be made available for fans worldwide, reflecting the sport’s growing international reach and rising profile in Jamaica.

“This is a proud day for Jamaican basketball and for our nation,” said Paulton Gordon, President of the Jamaica Basketball Association. “Partnering with a global powerhouse like adidas affirms what we have always believed - that Jamaican basketball belongs on the world stage. We are grateful to adidas for believing in our programme.”

As part of its commitment to the Jamaica national basketball programme ahead of the FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers, adidas has already provided the team with apparel and equipment as the squad prepares for one of the most important campaigns in its history.

“This partnership is rooted in shared heritage and cultural connection. Jamaica has always been an important part of our global football story, and through our longstanding relationship with the Marley family, this felt like a natural extension of that legacy into basketball,” said Cam Mason.

A major part of the initiative is tied to the longstanding relationship between adidas and the Bob and Rita Marley Foundation. The foundation, led by Cedella Marley alongside her son Sayan Marley-Minto, has played a key role in supporting the growth of basketball in Jamaica through youth outreach and community development initiatives.

As main sponsor of Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying campaign, and with Cedella Marley serving as an official ambassador for JaBA, the foundation plans to continue investing in grassroots development through court renovations, equipment donations, youth programmes, and international partnerships aimed at elevating Jamaican basketball globally.

Working alongside JaBA, the foundation has also coordinated school visits, equipment drives, and engagements with international basketball stars including Jamal Murray, as well as NBA twins Amen Thompson and Ausar Thompson, helping inspire the next generation of Jamaican basketball talent.

Jamaica currently sits second in Group B of the first round of the FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers, with upcoming fixtures scheduled for July 3 against Bahamas in Nassau and July 6 versus Canada in Hamilton. The top three teams from the group will advance to the next phase of the qualifiers.
