Jamaican Center Nick Richards Agrees to One-Year Deal With Miami Heat

The 28-year-old Kingston native joins a Heat frontcourt featuring newly acquired superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, while preparing to host a basketball camp in Kingston

Jamaican basketball player Nick Richards has signed a one-year contract with the Miami Heat, adding another experienced option to the team’s frontcourt.

The 28-year-old center joins Miami after six NBA seasons, having played for the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls. Last season, Richards appeared in 48 games for Phoenix and Chicago, averaging 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game.

A former second-round NBA Draft pick, Richards has developed into a reliable reserve throughout his career and now joins a revamped Heat frontcourt featuring Bam Adebayo and Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who arrived from the Milwaukee Bucks in a blockbuster trade. Miami also recently signed four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson after the veteran guard parted ways with the Dallas Mavericks.

Meanwhile, Richards is set to give back in Jamaica, hosting a Back-to-School Basketball Camp on Saturday, August 29, at Jamaica College in Kingston.
