Vybz Kartel adds another UK certification

Dancehall phenom Vybz Kartel has earned his third song certification in the United Kingdom, as Major Lazer’s 2009 hit “Pon De Floor,” featuring Kartel and Afrojack, has been certified Silver.

The track officially reached 200,000 units in combined sales and streams in the UK, according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), with the certification awarded on Friday, October 23.

Originally released on July 6, 2009, as part of Major Lazer’s debut album, Guns Don’t Kill People... Lazers Do, the track peaked at No. 41 on Billboard’s Dance Digital Song Sales chart.

“Pon De Floor” previously earned a place on Billboard’s 100 Best Dance Songs of All Time list, ranking at No. 60 and making Kartel one of two Jamaican artistes featured. The other was Grace Jones, whose 1981 hit “Pull Up to the Bumper” ranked at No. 82.

The achievement marks Kartel’s third UK certification, following Gold for “Fever” in July 2026 and Silver for “Summertime” in 2025.

The track gained further international recognition in 2011 when Beyoncé sampled its beat for her global hit “Run the World (Girls).”
