Dancehall icon Beenie Man’s iconic hit “Who Am I (Sim Simma)” has officially been certified Gold in the United Kingdom, marking sales of over 400,000 units.
The certification was awarded on Friday, October 23, by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), upgrading the track from its previous Silver status, earned in November 2019. It marks Beenie Man’s second UK certification, following “Dude,” which was certified Silver in 2020.
Produced by Jeremy Harding on the iconic Playground Riddim, “Who Am I” originally appeared on Beenie Man’s 1997 album Many Moods of Moses before being released as a single in 1998. The track became one of his signature international hits, peaking at No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart and marking his first Top 40 entry in the country.
The latest achievement follows the song’s Gold certification in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on November 15, 2023, recognizing sales of 500,000 units. The milestone marked Beenie Man’s first certified single in the U.S. throughout his international career.
To date, the Dancehall classic has amassed over 61 million streams on Spotify, while its official music video, uploaded to YouTube by VP Records in 2009, has garnered over 14 million views.
