Sharing the spirit of giving through the annual Kiwanis Christmas Cheer initiative

Sygnus has once again teamed up with the Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica to support its annual Christmas initiative at the Bustamante Hospital for Children, donating essential items and a cash contribution to help young patients during the holiday season. The effort aligns with Sygnus’ ongoing commitment to community upliftment, offering comfort to children and families still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Melissa.

In their second year of partnership, Sygnus and the Kiwanis Club provided gently used clothing, shoes, books, stationery, baby essentials, and toys for over 100 children across the A&E, NICU, and Oncology wards. The A&E ward was also transformed into a festive Winter Wonderland to brighten the spirits of young patients. The donation formed part of Sygnus’ Christmas Toys and Book Drive, with team members personally contributing to the cause.

Anadeen Nembhard, Vice President and Head of People, Culture and Talent Management, reflecting on the initiative, said, “Christmas is a particularly meaningful time to support children who are receiving care in the hospital, and we are happy to be able to extend this kind of support through our continued partnership with the Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica. This year, as families recover from the impact of Hurricane Melissa, we recognise the added challenges many are facing, and it is even more important to offer comfort and encouragement.”

Smiles, service, and the spirit of Christmas

With a long history of supporting the Bustamante Hospital for Children, the Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica led the effort, managing festive ward decorations and distributing donated gifts to ensure young patients enjoyed moments of joy through its Christmas Cheer programme.

The handover also received support from Carbyne Capital Investments, which donated toys and appliances to improve comfort across the wards. Martin Nesbeth, Co-Founder and CFO of Carbyne Capital, shared, “At Carbyne, we believe the holiday season is about more than gifts; it's about creating moments of comfort and joy for those who need it most. Partnering with Sygnus and the Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica allows us to bring warmth and happiness to the children at the Bustamante Hospital, reminding them and their families that they are cared for and not alone.”

The initiative comes as many families continue to face challenges after Hurricane Melissa, highlighting the crucial role of community-driven support. Bustamante Hospital for Children remains the only specialist paediatric hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean, serving patients from birth to age 12.

“As a Club dedicated to serving kids, this initiative is our way of wrapping them in love and joy, letting them know they are cherished and always remembered.”

Tamara Dunbar, President of the Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica, said, “Our Christmas signature project is about ensuring that children spending the holidays in the hospital feel celebrated and supported. As a Club dedicated to serving kids, this initiative is our way of wrapping them in love and joy, letting them know they are cherished and always remembered. Through partnerships like the one we share with Sygnus, we are able to transform hospital spaces into moments of celebration with festive décor and thoughtful gifts that bring smiles to young patients and their families, while reinforcing the message that the wider community cares deeply for them.”
