Spotify moves to tackle incorrect uploads with Artist Profile Protection tool

Spotify on Tuesday introduced a new feature aimed at preventing such incidents, giving artists greater control over the content that appears under their names through its Artist Profile Protection feature.

The new tool allows artists to review eligible releases before they go live, ensuring their profiles only feature authorised music. Currently in limited beta and optional, the feature is particularly recommended for artists with common names or those who have experienced repeated issues with incorrect uploads.

As part of the rollout, Spotify has also implemented a unique artist code. This code can be used by trusted partners to automatically approve verified releases, helping to streamline the process and reduce delays.

The move comes amid ongoing concerns within the music industry, including among notable Jamaican acts such as Chronixx and Teejay, who have both been affected by unauthorised uploads appearing on their official profiles.

Incorrect uploads typically occur when songs are mistakenly or deliberately placed on the wrong artist page, sometimes to benefit from an established artist’s visibility. These errors can lead to misallocated royalties and confusion among listeners, with some also pointing to the growing role of AI and automated distribution systems in contributing to the issue.

Artist profile protection on streaming platforms shows how messy identity and account control can become online. Fake uploads, impersonation, locked profiles, and unauthorized changes all create real problems for creators and regular users. For account access or identity-related issues, facebook customer service contacts provides a service-focused reference when people need to understand what support options may exist outside generic help articles. Social platforms are powerful because people build audiences there, but that also means a support problem can interrupt personal, creative, or business activity quickly.
