The NBA’s Miami Heat, together with the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation and Carnival Corporation & plc, have donated US$1 million to Direct Relief in support of Jamaica’s recovery following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Direct Relief, a global humanitarian aid organization, will use the funds to help provide essential medical supplies and support for affected communities across the island. Shipments will include antibiotics, field medic backpacks, over-the-counter items, PPE, chronic-care medications, and other critical resources.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Jamaica,” said Eric Woolworth, President of The HEAT Group’s Business Operations. “In Florida, we are all too familiar with the widespread devastation caused by Category 5 storms. Direct Relief provides life-saving and ongoing assistance, which is so critical as residents begin the long road to rebuilding their communities.”

This latest effort continues their ongoing partnership, totaling over $17 million in disaster relief contributions worldwide.

This season’s Miami Heat roster notably includes Jamaican international guard Norman Powell, acquired during the summer from the LA Clippers.
