Cardi B announces long-awaited sophomore album
Seven years after her Grammy-winning debut album "Invasion of Privacy," American rapper Cardi B has finally announced her long-awaited sophomore album, "Am I the Drama?," set for release on September 19.
"Am I the Drama?" is set to feature 23 tracks, including “WAP” (2020), “Up” (2021), and her latest viral hit, “Outside.”
Cardi has likely lined up a star-studded list of collaborations for the project; however, she has not yet revealed the tracklist. Speculation around a much-anticipated collaboration with dancehall megastar Vybz Kartel had been growing for months, but it hasn’t been officially confirmed. However, in a previous interview with Complex, Kartel revealed that a collaboration with Cardi B is in the works, further fueling the speculation.
Cardi has attended Vybz Kartel’s sold-out U.S. comeback concert at the Barclays Center in April, where she was one of the standout celebrity guests in the audience.
The 32-year-old rapper turned heads at Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour stop in Paris last night, rocking a dramatic cowboy-inspired outfit before surprising fans online with her album announcement. “Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, life, and loss... I have an announcement to make,” she declared on he social accounts.
Cardi burst onto the scene in 2018 with “Invasion of Privacy,” earning the Grammy for Best Rap Album and BET’s Album of the Year in 2019.
The news of a new album didn’t come as a complete surprise. On June 20, Cardi dropped her first solo release of 2025, “Outside”, a track rumored to be aimed at her ex, Offset, just two days after performing it live at Spotify Beach during Cannes Lions. It quickly shot to the top of the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart in the U.S., further cementing her record as the female artist with the most #1 songs in Apple Music history, according to Chart Data.
