Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend earns 16× Platinum Certification in the UK
Bob Marley and The Wailers’ iconic greatest hits compilation, Legend, has extended its remarkable legacy in the United Kingdom, earning a 16× Platinum certification.
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) announced on Friday, October 30, that the legendary collection has reached 4.8 million certified units in the UK, extending its impressive run after achieving 15× Platinum status in 2025.
The collection, originally released in 1984 through Island Records, three years after Marley’s passing, remains one of Reggae’s most celebrated compilations, continuing to resonate with audiences more than four decades later.
Legend features ten of Marley’s UK Top 40 hits, including “Three Little Birds,” “Is This Love,” and “Could You Be Loved.” The compilation also includes classics recorded with the original Wailers lineup featuring Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, such as “Stir It Up,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” and “Get Up, Stand Up.”
The latest milestone adds to the album’s impressive international accolades, including an 18× Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), representing 18 million certified units in the United States.
Legend has earned widespread critical recognition, ranking No. 46 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2003 list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” a position it retained in the revised 2012 edition.
More than four decades after its release, Legend has proven virtually immortal, maintaining a strong presence on digital music charts, including the upper ranks of the U.S. iTunes Reggae Albums chart, further cementing Marley’s enduring influence and the timeless appeal of his music across generations.
