Nearly 50 Years Later, Bob Marley’s “Waiting In Vain” Goes UK Platinum
The 1977 classic surpasses 600,000 units in the UK, adding another international certification after previously earning 3× Platinum status in New Zealand
“Waiting In Vain” extends its run of platinum certifications internationally.
Bob Marley and The Wailers’ classic “Waiting In Vain” has been certified Platinum in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) after surpassing 600,000 units.
The certification was announced on Friday, September 26, 2026, just over three years after the song earned Gold status on September 1, 2023. The track had previously achieved 3× Platinum certification in New Zealand.
Originally released as a single in 1977, “Waiting In Vain” reached No. 27 on the UK Singles Chart before returning to the chart seven years later, peaking at No. 31.
The track is also notable as one of the few Bob Marley and The Wailers singles to feature a non-album B-side. It was later included on the Diamond-certified compilation Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and The Wailers, helping the timeless recording reach generations of listeners around the world.
