According to reports by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is introducing noise cancellation for voice and video calls to Android beta users

WhatsApp introduces noise cancellation feature for voice and video calls

WhatsApp seems to be enhancing its voice and calling features, introducing a built-in technology that could significantly change the way users communicate.

The feature was first spotted in development back in March, and now it appears to be rolling out to Android beta users, signaling the platform’s continued push to improve call quality.

According to WABetaInfo, a source known for accurately predicting upcoming updates, WhatsApp has started enabling noise cancellation for voice and video calls among a limited group of users.

The feature is included in the latest beta versions for both Android (version 2.24.7.15) and iOS (version 24.7.10.71). Unlike in the past, where audio quality relied heavily on device hardware, this update introduces active noise cancellation directly within the app. The system can detect both static and dynamic background noise and separate it from the user’s voice in real time.

This means WhatsApp calls will be able to reduce unwanted sounds such as traffic, wind, and other background noise, prioritising clearer voice output. The feature is expected to work similarly to “Voice Isolation” on iPhones and comparable tools already available on many Android devices through native calling apps.

Based on shared previews, users will have access to a “Noise cancellation” toggle within the calling menu, allowing them to enable or disable the feature as needed. This feature is expected to significantly improve call clarity, potentially bringing WhatsApp’s voice and video calling quality on par with, or even ahead of, traditional cellular calls.

For now, the feature remains limited to beta testers, with access available through the Google Play Store. A wider rollout is expected, though no official timeline has been confirmed.
