Rising Jamaican roots reggae artist Yeza is set to release her highly anticipated debut album, Star of the East, produced by the legendary Rory Stonelove under Black Dub Music.
The 12-track project blends raw lyrical power, smooth melodies, and classic dub production, offering a powerful and deeply personal statement from the Bull Bay native. Inspired by her upbringing on Star of the East Lane, the album reflects Yeza’s journey and identity as the Righteous Bad Gyal meets Rude Girl Roots — a woman of clarity, courage, and creative fire.
“The title Star of the East is deeply personal; it’s the name of the street I grew up on,” Yeza explained. “That road, that environment, that energy… it is the root of the album. The life I lived there, and the perspective I’ve gained from it, shapes everything in this project.”
From declarations tracks like “Bullseye” to the confident swagger of “Organic”, which also received a remix featuring dancehall icon Patra, blending modern dancehall energy with a roots reggae twist, the album showcases Yeza’s dynamic range. Tracks like the spiritually grounded title track “Star of the East” and the gritty reflection of “Road Runner” highlight her ability to weave resilience, femininity, and elevation through both lyric and sound.
The album’s sonic landscape is crafted by veteran selector-turned-producer Rory Stonelove (real name Rory Gilligan), renowned for his high-energy sets in the 1990s and production of acclaimed projects such as Jah9’s “New Name”, Samory I’s “Black Gold”, and Kristine Alicia’s “Songs from Zion.” His collaboration with Yeza continues that legacy, pairing vintage textures with modern themes to bring her message to life.
Star of the East has already received early praise from platforms like Reggaeville and RastaRespect, while Yeza’s standout performances at Rebel Salute and the Dennis Brown Tribute Concert have further solidified her as one of reggae’s most compelling new voices.
With this debut, Yeza confidently steps forward as the Star of the East — merging ghetto strength with righteous consciousness, and asserting herself as a vital force in the evolution of Jamaican music.
