Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce closed her career by collecting silver in her final race, as Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team clocked a season-best 41.79s to secure second place in Tokyo

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ended her incredible career on Sunday with a silver medal in the women’s 4x100m relay at the World Championships in Tokyo.


The 38-year-old sprint icon led off Jamaica’s team in a head-to-head battle with USA’s sprint double champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, holding her own and handing the baton to Tia Clayton in a share of the lead.



The Jamaican quartet of Tia Clayton, Tina Clayton, Jonielle Smith, and starter Fraser-Pryce produced a season-best 41.79s to finish second. The American team of Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, TeeTee Terry, Kayla White, and Sha’Carri Richardson edged them for gold in 41.75s, while Germany secured bronze in 41.87s.


Fraser-Pryce closed her glittering career in style, collecting her 17th World Championships medal, 10 golds, six silvers, and one bronze across nine editions.
