With a melodic, smooth, soothing and deeply touching voice, Jamaican soul singer D’Yani finally delivered his debut album, Live Life and Prosper, on August 21. More than simply his first full-length project, the album marks an important career milestone, arriving after his signing with UK-based independent label Lizzy Records as its first artiste from Jamaica.

Largely produced by Kareem “Remus” Burrell of XTM.Nation, the 11-track album moves between spirituality, gratitude, reflection and the polished love ballads that naturally suit D’Yani’s distinctive voice.

From the opening track, “Journey,” D’Yani sets a reflective tone, giving thanks for his progress while embracing what lies ahead. Its meditative feel blends beautifully with his vocals before flowing into “Live A Little,” an impressive reggae-soul fusion that remains one of the project’s defining records.

The mood shifts into the ladies’ segment with the one-drop influences of “Dutchpot,” before continuing into the album’s romantic stretch. “On and On” and “Blooming” blend live instrumentation with smooth guitar elements, while D’Yani delivers heartfelt lyrics and powerful vocals on the standout “Miss You Bad.” “Love Is Infinity” keeps the warmth flowing before the album changes direction once again.

“Fi Mi Mama” merges some hip-hop, jazz and reggae influences together as D’Yani delivers a heartfelt tribute to his mother.

The closing section then returns to spirituality with “Joy Come A Morning,” a peaceful reggae cut where his vocal tone at moments carries shades of Jah Cure.

D’Yani brings the journey full circle with “Clasp Your Hands” and the closing “Jah Has Been Too Good.” An album that begins by reflecting on the journey ends by giving thanks for it - a fitting conclusion to a mature and cohesive debut.

Released through D’Yani Music, Lizzy Records and XTM.Nation, Live Life and Prosper play to D’Yani’s biggest strength: his soulful and unmistakable voice, supported by rich production and enough musical variety to keep the journey interesting.
