Press Kay Celebrates Double Career Debut with Reggae Land and Redeemed

After making her Reggae Land debut alongside Beenie Man, Press Kay returned to Jamaica for the red-carpet premiere of Redeemed, describing her first big-screen appearance as “still surreal.”

Media personality and recording artiste Kaylia “Press Kay” Williams has celebrated two major career debuts within the span of just a few days. Fresh from making her live performance debut alongside Dancehall icon Beenie Man at the Reggae Land Festival in Milton Keynes, England, Williams returned to Jamaica to attend the red-carpet premiere of Redeemed, where she officially made her acting debut on the big screen.

Speaking with Kaboom Magazine, Williams said she is both elated and grateful to have shared the stage with one of her biggest musical idols before experiencing another career milestone just days later.

“It was truly an honour performing alongside Beenie Man. His team and his fiancée, Camille, made sure I got back to Jamaica in time to walk the red carpet for my first movie premiere. I'm so thankful for their support,” she said.

Reflecting on seeing herself on the big screen for the first time, Williams described the experience as surreal, especially as she appeared alongside an accomplished cast that includes Michael “String Bean” Nicholson, whom she grew up watching on Royal Palm Estate, Hollywood actor Malik Yoba, international actress Jacinth Headlam, and entertainer and actor Safaree Samuels.

“It's still surreal watching myself alongside such an incredible cast. Days later, I'm still taking it all in,” Press Kay shared with Kaboom Magazine.

Williams fondly remembered the moment she realized she had secured the role in the film. “It's funny you asked about my role because when I went to the audition, I was the last person there. One of the production staff, Yolande Yee, said, 'Press Kay doesn't need to audition. We have the perfect role for her, we don't need to look any further.' Pastor Otis Manning and director Luc Stephen still asked me to read a scene, and after I finished, everyone applauded and said, 'The role is yours.' It was an unforgettable moment because right after that the hotel had a power cut and we said Selah that a sign lol,” she recalled.

The media personality said she is honoured to be part of a production that delivers powerful messages of faith, hope, forgiveness, and healing. “I'm truly grateful to be a part of this film. It carries several messages that will resonate with families. Redeemed speaks about faith, forgiveness, identity, redemption, and trusting in God, reminding us that He can do all things.”

The faith-based crime drama follows a family torn apart by a childhood kidnapping, exploring themes of redemption, resilience, and the power of faith, making it, according to Williams, “definitely a must-watch.”

Now showing in cinemas across Jamaica, Williams is encouraging Jamaicans to support the locally produced film. “I'm so excited about my movie debut. It's truly an amazing experience, and I want to encourage every Jamaican to go out and watch Redeemed. It's a must-see - it’s out in theatres today.”
