Pepsi-Cola Jamaica once again demonstrated its strong commitment to western Jamaica communities this weekend, as the 2026 staging of the Sagicor SIGMA Corporate Run generated $152 million to aid the rebuilding of five schools severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa.

The beneficiaries include Salt Marsh Primary and Infant School, Mayfield Primary and Infant School, Hopewell High School, Green Pond High School and Little London High School.

This year’s staging, held under the theme “Run for the West,” united corporate partners, schools, and thousands of participants in a powerful display of national solidarity. Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized that the initiative continues to highlight what can be achieved when citizens and corporate Jamaica collaborate to strengthen education and support community recovery efforts.

Commemorating the milestone at the 5-kilometre mark was Mekalia Failey with a refreshing drink of Gatorade.

Against that backdrop, more than 70 members of the Pepsi-Cola Jamaica team participated in the 5.5-kilometre event, reinforcing the company’s hands-on commitment and aligning its presence with broader relief initiatives across the region.

“Immediately after Hurricane Melissa, Pepsi-Cola Jamaica began supporting affected communities through meal partnerships, building material donations and product support,” said Stephan Bennett, Brand Coordinator for Gatorade at Pepsi-Cola Jamaica. “Our support did not stop when the storm passed, and events like Sigma allow us to continue standing with communities as they rebuild.”

As one of the event’s key sponsors, Gatorade ensured participants stayed refreshed by providing hydration stations at strategic points along the course, including the two-kilometre and four-kilometre markers, as well as at the finish line. While some may see SIGMA as “just a 5K,” Bennett underscored the critical role hydration plays, particularly in Jamaica’s tropical climate.

“When you’re walking or running that distance in the sun, you’re losing fluids and electrolytes through sweat,” he explained. “Water hydrates you, but isotonic drinks like Gatorade are designed with electrolytes to help recharge the body and support continued performance.”

Beyond race day, Bennett said Pepsi-Cola Jamaica will continue to assist communities affected by Hurricane Melissa through ongoing donations, partnerships, and outreach initiatives.

“Communities are still rebuilding,” he said. “And we intend to continue supporting them as they work to get back on their feet.”
