With legendary Usain Bolt in the stands cheering on, Jamaica reclaimed supremacy in the men’s 100m at the World Track and Field Championships, going one-two for the first time since Bolt’s retirement in 2017.
Oblique Seville stormed to gold with a personal best of 9.77 seconds, finishing strongly over the final 10 meters to seal victory in the men’s 100m final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Fellow Jamaican Kishane Thompson followed in 9.82 to complete the one-two finish, while American Noah Lyles - the 2023 world champion and 2024 Olympic gold medalist — claimed bronze in 9.87, marking his first-ever defeat in a global championship 100m at any level.
Seville, coached by Bolt’s longtime mentor Glen Mills, reflected on the moment with pride. “I want to see Bolt and have a word with him because he told the world I was going to be champion,” Seville said. “Everyone ignored it, but now I’ve proven, even in front of him, that I am the champion.”
“It’s a new chapter for me, winning the gold,” he added. “Over the years, I’ve shown my talent and my class, and that I am a true medal contender.”
Bolt reacted to the men’s 100m final as Oblique Seville led a Jamaican one-two finish alongside Kishane Thompson.
