Reggae artist Moziyah stays true to roots reggae while working on upcoming EP, recording at Tuff Gong, and promises music with meaning: "we are the voice of today’s struggles"

Roots reggae artist Moziyah stays true to his authenticity, spirituality, and faith. Wearing his roots reggae hat proudly, he is currently working on a new EP and hopes to make an impact through his lyrics.

Born Andrew Robert on Red Hills Road in Kingston, Jamaica’s music capital, the Red Hills native grew up in front of a recording studio and outdoor dances, singing competitively from the age of seven. With that foundation, he stepped into his musical journey. "Reggae music is the heartbeat of the people. It has always been the expression of a generation. Bob, Peter, Jacob, and Burning Spear were all voices of their time, and in this I-wah, I am the voice, or we are the voice, of today’s struggles," he explained.

With his single "Cry for Love," he seeks to bring forward the true meaning of love. "What inspired me is the current state of relationships. Everything feels transactional, more like a business, as if real love doesn’t exist anymore. There’s an internal war between Black women and Black men these days, and I wanted to address that through music," he shared.

Working on new material, Moziyah is no stranger to recording studios. Having spent years exploring and absorbing the vibes, he recently recorded at the legendary Tuff Gong Studio. "The experience was great," he shared. "It’s a very professional environment. Live music is what I do, with real instruments, soulful vibes, and the authentic reggae sound that I believe in."

He also emphasizes the importance of preserving reggae’s authenticity. "Reggae’s message has been gospel to the entire world. The music has impacted people spiritually and mentally. My music is a message too, every word is a concentrated story, delivered word for word."

Looking ahead, Moziyah promises to remain true to his values and continue creating music with substance. "They can expect quality and creativity. Everything I do is rooted in meaning and purpose," he affirmed.
