Maxi Priest rallies global support for Jamaica’s Hurricane Relief
Veteran UK-based reggae artist Maxi Priest is doing everything he can to keep his homeland Jamaica, in the wake of Hurricane Melissa’s devastation - stepping into fundraising efforts on every front.
Priest has thrown his support behind Sean Paul, who pledged to match every dollar raised by his foundation, up to US$100,000, in partnership with Food For The Poor Jamaica. In collaboration with his label distributor Intercept Music, Maxi has also joined The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation Relief Fund on GoFundMe to help bolster contributions toward Sean Paul’s campaign. Intercept Music has already made a financial donation.
“One of Jamaica’s greatest gifts to the world has always been music - it’s how we share love, unity, and hope. But right now, our beautiful island needs us,” Maxi Priest shared. “Hurricane Melissa has left so many of our brothers and sisters in need of support. Music and unity have the power to heal and rebuild. Let’s all do our part to make Jamaica ‘Feel So Alive’ again,” he added, emphasizing his latest single featuring his musical brother, Jamaican icon Sean Paul.
Ralph Tashjian, founder and chairman of Maxi's label Intercept Music, echoed the sentiment. “Intercept Music is honored to join forces with Maxi Priest, Sean Paul, and The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation to help raise awareness and funding for Jamaica. The island has given us so much through its music, food, and culture. It’s imperative that we do our part to help restore its glory and support its people.”
Maxi has also teamed up with The British Chamber of Commerce Guyana (BritCham Guyana) to raise additional funds for hurricane relief. Alongside BritCham Chairman Faizal Khan, Maxi dedicated the networking segment of the BritCham Guyana Business Forum & Networking Event, held at Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge in London, to a special relief fundraiser. A live auction during the event raised over US$27,000.
Beyond fundraising, Maxi is working directly with Tropical Sun - the largest distributor of African and Caribbean products in the UK - to send canned goods, rice, and other essential supplies to Jamaica. He also coordinated a plane filled with relief items, including donations from other charities, to ensure aid reached the island quickly.
Maxi Priest continues to encourage all lovers of Jamaica and Jamaican music to support The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation Relief Fund.
