Dancehall artiste Malie Donn delivers debut album The Golden Child
New-age dancehall artiste Malie Donn has released his highly anticipated 21-track debut album, The Golden Child, via VP Records on Friday, September 4.
The project brings together Malie Donn’s distinctive voice and melodic delivery across themes of confidence, ambition and resilience, while also featuring captivating tracks that speak directly to the ladies, an audience he has increasingly connected with throughout his rise in recent years.
At the heart of the album is its title and theme track, “Golden Child,” featuring Squash. The collaboration brings together two distinct voices in modern dancehall, pairing Malie Donn’s signature melodic flow with Squash’s unmistakable presence. An official music video for the track also accompanies the album’s release.
“The Golden Child represents everything that brought me to this point: the pressure, the growth, the wins and the lessons,” Malie Donn shared. “This project gives people a chance to hear more of who I am as an artist, where I want to take the music next and the versatility I bring.”
That versatility is spread throughout the 21-track set, with songs such as “Sauce” and “Drums,” alongside confidence-driven cuts like “Winning” and “No Fear.” The album also features collaborations including “Club Lit” with Javo Donn, while previously released single “Holiday,” which arrived on August 7 with its official music video, showcases another side of Malie Donn’s artistry.
Malie Donn also continues to show support for fellow dancehall artiste Squash beyond their “Golden Child” collaboration. Alongside Byron Messia, he appears on “Free 6ix Boss,” another track included on the album. Squash is currently projected to be released from U.S. federal prison on November 11, 2026, following multiple reductions to his projected release date.
Rooted in his journey from Spanish Town to Waterford, Portmore, The Golden Child captures an artiste embracing the expectations surrounding his rise while remaining connected to the sound and experiences that first introduced him to dancehall audiences.
The album arrives as Malie Donn continues to ride the momentum of “Van Cleef” and “Van Cleef Pt. 2,” along with a successful overseas promotional run. Just one day after the album’s release, he will step into one of the biggest moments of his career so far with a sold-out headline show at Indigo at The O2 in London on September 5, with an official after-party also announced.
