Major Lazer officially begins a new chapter with 9-track project
Major Lazer is stepping into a bold new era with the announcement of their upcoming mixtape GYALGEBRA, slated for release on November 21 via Mad Decent.
The project marks a major shift for the group as it introduces their newest member, London-born multi-hyphenate America Foster, who plays a central role across the tracklist. Foster appears on the lead single “BRUK DOWN” (alongside Parris Goebel and SadBoi) and delivers a ‘90s dancehall-inspired solo moment with “Peppa Pot.”
GYALGEBRA, a 9-track body mixtape, is Major Lazer’s first official project in five years. According to the press release, the mixtape signals a return to the group’s outsider dancehall roots and the unpredictable genre-bending energy of their early days - the era that produced global anthems like “Pon De Floor” and “Watch Out For This (Bumaye).”
The guest list is equally versatile, featuring longtime collaborator and Jamaican dancehall star Busy Signal, soca icon Bunji Garlin, zess queen Lady Lava, Amsterdam-based DJ/producer Kybba, Dominican rapper Tokischa (who teamed up with Skillibeng on the 2024 single “Boom”), and a range of other multi-genre artists who help mold the mixtape’s expansive, cross-cultural sound.
Foster, a multi-talented British-Jamaican artist, model, content creator, comedian, and all-around entertainer, joined Major Lazer earlier this year after connecting with Diplo in London in 2024. Impressed by her undeniable energy, he invited her to Jamaica to record what would eventually become “BRUK DOWN” last October. By early 2025, she was welcomed as a full-fledged member, debuting live with the group during a series of major European shows over the summer.
She’s already been making waves with viral freestyles on Capital XTRA and Apple Music Radio - including her breakout “GANGSTA” freestyle with Busy Signal, which was later released as an official remix in September.
The announcement follows group founder Diplo, who was recently joined by Canadian-Jamaican model Winnie Harlow on the ground in western Jamaica to assist communities devastated by Hurricane Melissa. Spending his birthday in St. Elizabeth, the American DJ visited areas such as Treasure Beach and Parottee to personally deliver food, water, and essential supplies to affected families.
Looking ahead, Major Lazer, now including Foster, will return to the California desert for Coachella next year, marking their first appearance at the iconic festival in 10 years, with scheduled performances on April 12 and 19, 2026. They are also set to headline Ultra Music Festival in March, kicking off what promises to be a massive year for the group.
