Guyanese-born Dr. Michelle Gill has successfully secured full federal registration and patent protection for Get With the Fix (GWTF Radio).
Launched during the height of the 2020 pandemic, Get With the Fix Radio has grown into a dynamic digital platform connecting Caribbean and American audiences. As founder and operator, Dr. Gill leads a team of DJs and media personalities, amplifying diverse voices and music on an international stage.
Dr. Gill first began the trademark process in 2018, but the registration was unknowingly abandoned in 2021. In February 2025, she discovered that another party was attempting to claim the name. Acting quickly, she reapplied for protection—a process that proved complex, costly, and emotionally demanding. Despite facing multiple legal challenges and communications from competing claimants, she remained resolute.
By March 31, 2026, Dr. Gill officially secured full federal registration and patent protection for Get With the Fix (GWTF Radio), granting her exclusive legal rights to her brand identity and any associated innovations, and solidifying her intellectual property ownership in the United States.
Reflecting on the journey, Dr. Gill underscored the importance of trademark protection saying. “You don’t own your brand until it’s officially trademarked. Anyone can claim it and you could lose all your hard work. Being able to protect your name and send cease-and-desist letters when necessary is empowering. For me, as an immigrant, owning my brand represents the American dream.”
