Drake Shouts Out Vybz Kartel and Gaza in New FOMO Short Film

The Canadian superstar teases his new “not-so-short film,” featuring a shout-out to Vybz Kartel and his Gaza movement, calling himself “Baby Gaza” in a snippet featuring Winnie Harlow walking through the streets

Drake has sparked speculation with a new song snippet featured in his latest short film, FOMO, in which he appears to pay homage to dancehall icon Vybz Kartel and his Gaza movement.

The snippet, heard at the 17:47 mark, features the Canadian superstar delivering dancehall-inspired lyrics, including references to Gaza, the Worl’ Boss and his new nickname, “Baby Gaza.”

“Inna the world we a pray fi Gaza / Worl’ Boss home and a play with Gaza / Me brand new nickname ‘Baby Gaza’ / Done know the Killy dem crazy barber,” Drake raps.

While the reference to Gaza could also allude to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the lyrics appear to draw heavily on Jamaican dancehall culture, particularly Kartel’s Gaza movement, which takes its name from the Portmore community and has developed a devoted international following.

The clip also features Jamaican-Canadian model Winnie Harlow walking through the streets, adding another layer of Caribbean connection to the visuals and further suggesting that Drake is paying homage to Kartel and his Gaza movement.

This would not be Drake’s first tribute to the dancehall legend. The Canadian rapper previously paid homage to Kartel on “New Bestie,” a track from his album Maid of Honour.
