Grammy-nominated Jamaican superstar Cham, formerly known as Baby Cham, has dropped his long-anticipated fourth studio album, Sherlock, under his own Lawless Army Music imprint. The album made an immediate impact, debuting at #7 on the iTunes Top 100 Reggae Albums chart just hours after its official release on Friday.
The 8-track project is led by the gritty street anthem “Hustling In My Blood” featuring reggae royalty Stephen Marley and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. Since its release two weeks ago, the official video has already amassed over 250,000 views on YouTube. Co-produced by Cham alongside acclaimed producers like The FaNaTiX, CopperShaun, and DJ Karim, the album balances Cham’s classic dancehall grit with global appeal.
From the hard-hitting theme track “Sherlock” to the melodic closer “Starlight,” Cham offers a vivid journey through his life and mindset. On “Maddest Life,” he dives into a fearless lifestyle; “Miss Seductress” is a piece targeted for the ladies; and “Lamborghini Boy,” which quickly secured spots on major Apple Music playlists, flaunts his baller status. The club-ready “What’s Poppin” amps up the energy with a catchy “Ho! Hey!” chorus, while “Hall of Fame” sees Cham honoring a special muse. Altogether, Sherlock reaffirms Cham’s legacy as a dancehall titan still pushing the genre forward.
Cham’s story is further amplified by Sherlock’s stunning cover art, which features his image superimposed over a bird’s-eye view of the Sherlock Crescent neighborhood where he was raised. "The cover is inspired by the community I grew up in for most of my life - Duhaney Park, Kingston 20." Cham explained in a recent social media post that revealed the album artwork. "Some call it 'The Ghetto,' some call it 'Inner City,' but I call it 'Home.' I wanted people to see the streets that made Baby Cham, the avenues I walked as a child. I wanted to let the youth know I walked the same roads as them, but didn't succumbed to them. They can make it also."
Cham will embark on a North American tour in support of his album release, with stops including the Marleys’ annual Welcome to Jamrock Cruise. He’s also slated to make surprise appearances on the Traffic Jam Tour alongside Stephen and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. On August 23, Cham will head to Canada for the Oasis Music Fest, where he’ll share the stage with longtime collaborator and dancehall legend Bounty Killer, Dexta Daps, and Grenadian soca star Mr. Killa.
