Beres Hammond keeps legacy alive
Reggae legend Beres Hammond continues to build on his remarkable legacy and global influence. Recently, the City of Boston honored him with an official proclamation, declaring August 13th as “Beres Hammond Day” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to music.
“I had the absolute honor of presenting an official proclamation on behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu and the City of Boston, declaring August 13th as Beres Hammond Day during his sold-out Wilbur Theatre show,” shared Bianca Rose, the City of Boston’s Caribbean Cultural Advisor, who presented the award. This latest honor adds to the long list of accolades bestowed upon the King of Lovers Rock. “Beres Hammond is arguably everyone’s favorite, the voice that can turn a room full of strangers into one big family. His music is pure soul, pure love, and pure reggae magic, uniting generations and cultures effortlessly,” She added.
Currently, the “Rock Away” singer is on his Forever Giving Thanks Tour under the Beres Hammond & Friends concert series, performing across the East Coast. Joining him on select dates are longtime collaborator and queen of reggae Marcia Griffiths, dancehall artist Cham, and reggae gospel singer Lady Da Flame.
The tour continues this weekend with shows at NJPAC in Newark, NJ, on Saturday, August 16, and the Coney Island Amphitheater in Brooklyn on Sunday, August 17.

Griffiths expressed her deep admiration for Hammond, noting, “That’s a very special person to me. I believe I knew him in another life. We’re always laughing nonstop,” she said. “I often wonder how he writes lyrics that match things I’m experiencing without even knowing.”
Griffiths is also riding high alongside Cham, who is promoting his latest album Sherlock. After their performances, Cham will head to Canada to appear at Bounty Killer’s highly anticipated return concert at the Oasis Festival in Toronto on Saturday, August 23.
Meanwhile, Hammond will keep the tour going with a stop at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, on Tuesday, August 19, before continuing through Virginia, Charlotte, Orlando, and more.
