Jamaica’s national 100m hurdles record holder Ackera Nugent emerged as the country’s sole trophy winner at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland, yesterday. The 21-year-old equaled her season’s best of 12.30 seconds (-0.6 m/s) to claim victory in the women’s 100m hurdles and walked away with the US$100,000 (approximately J$16 million) cash prize.

It marks Nugent’s first major senior title on the global stage and sends a strong message ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji finished second with a national record time of 12.40 seconds, while Grace Stark of the United States claimed third in 12.44 seconds. Fellow Jamaican and 2023 world champion Danielle Williams placed fourth, also clocking 12.44 seconds in a highly competitive final.

While Nugent stood atop the podium, fellow sprinter Tia Clayton secured a podium finish in the women’s 100m, but fell short of securing a wild card entry to the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.

Ackeem Blake finished third in the men’s 100m, while Andrenette Knight also claimed a podium spot in the women’s 400m hurdles.
