Vybz Kartel and Guyana's Slingerz Records Drop Long-Overdue Collab “Live Your Life”

Guyana's premier sound and label, Slingerz, signals its long-standing connection with Vybz Kartel through a new release. With lyrics like “Slingerz inna life, we can all be winners,” the single showcases a blend of loyalty and rich lifestyle.

Guyana’s number one sound system, Slingerz Family, via its imprint Slingerz Records, drops its long-anticipated collaboration with dancehall icon Vybz Kartel. The single, titled “Live Your Life,” is released on Friday, August 1, and distributed by ONErpm.

The track soaks in summer vibes and high energy, paired with a dynamic music video shot in Miami by acclaimed director Shane Creative. From the very first line, Kartel’s lyrical genius shines through as he sings, “Slingerz inna life, we can all be winners.”

The release has been long overdue, rooted in the long-standing connection between Kartel and the Slingerz Family over the years. That friendship and business relationship was stamped in Kartel’s 2020 track “It’s A Sin,” where he delivered the unforgettable shoutout: “Big up everybody in Guyana—yow Slingerz!”.

“This is by far the greatest accomplishment for Slingerz. It’s like today’s Michael Jackson or Bob Marley recognizing you and your country in a song. Vybz Kartel is the King of Dancehall—his recognition means we’re doing something right,” shared Kevin Balgobin in a previous exclusive interview with Kaboom Magazine.

The sound and label, which essentially dominates dancehall in Guyana with a passionate fan base, expanded into the recording industry around 2020—, following a suggestion from the dancehall phenomenon himself. “Honestly, it was Vybz Kartel who suggested it during a reasoning. We were talking about the links, the Slingerz brand, and how big the brand really is. He said we could make an impact in dancehall if we stepped into the production side. So in 2020, I decided to go forward with it,” Balgobin said.

Since launching the label, Slingerz Records has dropped an impressive string of releases, including tracks on last year’s viral 1Rifle Riddim, which featured “Ikation” by Kraff, a song that has racked up over 24 million views on YouTube to date. They also released a major collaboration between dancehall stars Teejay and Masicka titled “Never Complain.”

“It opened so many doors for me as a producer. Big up to Vybz Kartel. I could never thank him enough for everything he’s done for Slingerz,” the entrepreneur added.
