Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel, alongside Beenie Man, Busy Signal, Wayne Wonder and Spragga Benz, was honoured by the mayor for their outstanding contributions to music and continued humanitarian efforts.

The five icons received the Key to Broward County in Florida on Monday night, along with official proclamations from the City of Lauderhill and the State of Florida, a significant recognition of their cultural impact both locally and globally.

The honour was presented during a special commission meeting held as part of International Reggae Month celebrations, underscoring the genre’s enduring global influence and the pioneers who helped shape it.

“It’s a pleasure, it’s a very humbling thing, so, you know my motto already, God is the Greatest. Big up the artiste dem, all the G dem pon di panel. Miss Mayor, big up, nuff love, thank you guys,” Kartel said while accepting the honour.

Lauderhill is home to a large Jamaican-American population, and the city’s mayor, Denise Grant, is herself Jamaican, along with other members of the commission.
