Kishane Thompson, set for Eugene Diamond League

Following the Jamaican National Trials, which saw several new champions emerge and secure their spots for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September, the spotlight now turns to the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, a key stop on the Diamond League circuit.

Jamaica’s newly crowned 100m champion and Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson, who recently recorded a personal best of 9.75 seconds, is set to compete in the men’s 100m at the Prefontaine Classic. He’ll be joined by compatriot Ackeem Blake, the third-place finisher at the national trials. The international field includes Americans Christian Coleman, Trayvon Bromell, and Brandon Hicklin; South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza; and British sprinters Zharnel Hughes and Jeremiah Azu.

In the 200m, Jamaican rising star Bryan Levell will go head-to-head with Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, Olympic gold medalist, and American sprinter Kenneth Bednarek. A rematch of the Paris 2024 women’s 100m final will see Saint Lucia’s gold medalist Julien Alfred, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden compete once again.

Newly crowned Jamaican 100m champion Tina Clayton and her twin sister Tia Clayton are also listed among the starters. In the women’s 100m hurdles, rising Jamaican talent Ackera Nugent, who was edged out by Megan Tapper at the national trials, will look to bounce back on the international stage. She’ll face tough competition from fellow Jamaican and world champion Danielle Williams, as well as Olympic champion Masai Russell of the United States.
