Teejay donated 500,000 JMD to Sunshine Girls on their trip to South Africa

The Dancehall star made the donation while he performed at the Jamaican women's netball team 'Goal To Gold' send-off party: "I'll always pledge my part and be a part of progress"

The Jamaican women's netball team has enjoyed unexpected support in their journey to the 2023 World Championships in South Africa.


Dancehall artiste Teejay performed at the Knutsford Court Hotel at the Official Sunshine Girls Sendd-off party, under the theme 'Goal Is Gold'. The event was hosted by the Minister of Culture, Gender, entertainment and Sport – Hon. Olivia 'Babsy' Grange.


Some of the Sunshine Girls team players joined Teejay on set during his 'Drift', performance and so too did Babsy, as she popularly referred to – all doing the popular Drift dance. The Uptop Boss made the $500,000 JMD donation through his Timoy Jones Foundation at the end of the performance.



"Once it a progress, I'll always pledge my part and be a part of progress, and if a the Sushine Girls reach where they are now, it's a progress. so for Timoy Jones Foundation it's a blessings. I did it from my heart, for the culture", said the singjay.


Jamaica's Sunshine Girls made history on Friday after winning their first-ever gold medal at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean champions with a 50-36 victory over Trinidad and Tobago.


The 12-member Sunshine Girls squad to South Africa is Captained by Jhaniele Fowler. The squad will travel to the 16th staging of the Vitality Netball World Cup set for July 28 to August 6 in Cape Town, South Africa. Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls will be among 16 teams vying for the World Cup trophy.

The national netball team’s best placings at the Netball World Cup were third-place finishes at the 1991, 2003 and 2007 editions. The Jamaicans will face Sri Lanka in their first match at the tournament on July 28.
