With a career spanning back to the mid-80s, reggae legend Capleton continues to bring unmatched energy every time he steps on stage.
Capleton credits his disciplined lifestyle and natural diet for his enduring stamina. The Fireman explained that while he doesn’t go to the gym, he once ran track in school—his sister, Aleen Bailey, went on to become a Jamaican Olympic runner. “I don’t drink alcohol and I don’t eat meat, not even fish, even though I like to go fishing at sea because it relaxes me,” he shared. “I drink a lot of herbal tea, eat plenty of fruits, and I don’t drink anything cold, not even ice water. I use my performances as my workout.”
Shango’s iconic stage jumps have become his trademark, a move that fans eagerly anticipate at every performance. At 58, the Fireman still brings the same fiery energy, leaping across stages from the UK’s Reggae Land to the Barclays Center during Labor Day weekend. And the demand shows no signs of slowing, with upcoming performances at Sharkies Seafood Fest on October 20 in St. Ann and the Treasure Beach Food, Rum, and Reggae Festival on November 8.

The veteran deejay, a devoted Rastafarian, says he lives by the teachings of Haile Selassie and rejects selfishness and greed. “I’m never holding a grudge or bitterness towards anyone. When I have a disagreement, I believe in dialogue, communicating my feelings, and then letting it go,” he noted.
The musical icon, who recently received a National Icon Award from the Jamaican government at the Grand Gala in Jamaica’s National Stadium, has amassed over 340 million Spotify streams. With his good spirit and disciplined diet, he continues to carry his legacy forward.
