SkyBad Brings the Heavy Hitters for Everybody Hates Chris After Years in the Making

The dancehall producer returns with a reflective 13-track project featuring some of the genre’s biggest names, including Beenie Man, Tommy Lee Sparta, Valiant, and Squash, slated for release on October 2

Dancehall producer SkyBad is gearing up for the release of his new project, Everybody Hates Chris, bringing together a heavyweight lineup across the 13-track project, slated for release on October 2.

Bringing together voices from dancehall, reggae and beyond, the project includes “Stush” by Beenie Man, “Darkk” featuring Tommy Lee Sparta, “Heart Beat Different” featuring Demarco and “Best Touch” with Byron Messia, alongside tracks with Squash, Mortimer, Afro B, Barbie J, Valiant, Rygin King and others.

Carrying the tagline “They Hate. God’s Glory.”, the title Everybody Hates Chris reflects a personal chapter in the producer’s life and career. “Well, the name came from just where I’m at in life. Like, a lot of stuff happened throughout my life personally and musically. I just feel like at this point of my life a lot of people nuh really rate me, lol. I could be wrong, but such is life,” SkyBad, whose given name is Christophe Wright, explained.

According to SkyBad, the project has been years in the making, with some of the material having been recorded as far back as 2021. “This album has been a drag. Been working on it officially since 2023, I think, but have songs on the album that’s recorded from 2021. There are songs that should’ve been on the album but just didn’t make the final cut. Being missing from the scene for a while, just wanted to resurface with a project that had some heavy hitters.”

While SkyBad assembled an impressive roster, he says the selection process was also shaped by people within his circle and artists he had already built relationships with through previous productions.

“Selecting the artiste wasn’t just all me. I have people in my corner like K9, Jugist, Thrill Seeker that would refer artiste with a certain sound, and then quite a few of the artiste on the album are like core artiste on productions I’ve released previously,” the producer shared.

“This album has been a drag. Been working on it officially since 2023, I think, but have songs on the album that’s recorded from 2021. There are songs that should’ve been on the album but just didn’t make the final cut.”

SkyBad also sees the project as a reflection of his evolution as a producer. “There’s a lot of growth as it relates to my production, and I think a lot of evolution comes with working with various talents,” he said. “Working on their songs and beats modernize my initial sound, ’cause dem always want some likkle things and me haffi just get with the time.”

Ultimately, SkyBad hopes the project showcases his range while delivering something for different audiences. “I see this project as a solid body of work. I hope the diaspora appreciate it as much as I do ’cause this took a lot out of me. It’s an all-rounded project with dancehall, reggae and Afrobeat, so I think there’s a song on it for everybody.”
