Fast-rising dancehall star Skippa has marked another major milestone in his burgeoning career, accepting the Billboard Caribbean Rising Star Award in New York ahead of his appearance at Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop LIVE.
The event, powered by Amazon Music, takes place on September 10 at Brooklyn Steel in New York, with Grammy-winning R&B singer Lucky Daye leading the lineup alongside American rapper Yung Miami and several other acts.
An excited Skippa celebrated the recognition while highlighting the importance of Caribbean talent receiving a platform on the international stage. “Not for just acknowledging rising stars, but for acknowledging Caribbean rising stars,” he said.
The deejay also thanked his team and growing fanbase for supporting his journey, crediting “every stream and every show” for helping him reach the milestone.
The recognition comes as Skippa continues to establish himself among the front-runners of dancehall’s new generation. Following a prolific year, the deejay is maintaining strong momentum with viral singles “Detox” and “Glocks and Chips,” both making an impact on the trending charts.
