The new venue forms part of Ellis’s broader vision to transform Duhaney Park into a commercial and entertainment hub. Approximately J$60 million has been invested in developing The Compound, including infrastructure, renovations and commercial spaces aimed at supporting local businesses and creating employment opportunities.
Ellis’s ties to Duhaney Park run deep, with his parents having established businesses in the community that remain operational today. Continuing that family legacy, he has developed The Compound into a multi-business destination featuring retail, wholesale, food, beauty and entertainment establishments, providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and a gathering place for the wider community.
“A beautiful space might get somebody through the door once, but it’s the experience they have that determines whether they return.”
Ellis has established a strong presence in Jamaica's entertainment and business sectors through his leadership at Twenty 14 Limited and his involvement in the growth of Sandz Caribbean Music Festival, which has expanded into international markets. His business portfolio also includes also includes ReadyStock Wholesale Limited and previous hospitality ventures, supported by his background in brand management and marketing.
Located above ReadyStock Wholesale Limited at The Compound, 20 Rooftop Lounge offers a modern dining and entertainment experience featuring stylish décor, premium cocktails, music and live entertainment. The menu includes wings, tacos, burgers, pasta and seafood, alongside signature cocktails such as Brown Don, Henny Fyah, Black Velvet, Sky High and Pink Clouds. The venue also plans to host themed events, private celebrations and weekly entertainment experiences.
“We’re not necessarily trying to be the biggest lounge in Kingston. I would much rather be known for having a great atmosphere, consistently good food and drinks, and an experience that keeps people coming back,” Ellis explained. “A beautiful space might get somebody through the door once, but it’s the experience they have that determines whether they return.”
