Reggae singer Fantan Mojah has died
Reggae singer Fantan Mojah has died at the age of 49, just three weeks before what would have been his 50th birthday.
The Rastafarian artiste, whose given name was Owen Lennox Moncrieffe, passed away on Tuesday evening at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston after suffering complications related to his heart.
Fantan Mojah had battled heart-related health issues in recent years. In July 2024, he was hospitalized in Martinique after suffering a heart attack. He later recovered and was reported to be in improving condition.
Rising to prominence during the mid-2000s, Fantan Mojah became one of reggae's leading conscious voices, earning widespread respect for his spiritually uplifting messages, Rastafarian philosophy, and socially conscious lyrics. Among his best-known songs are "Hail the King," "Thanks & Praise," "Nuh Build Great Man" featuring Jah Cure, and "Rasta Got Soul," all of which helped cement his place as one of reggae's most respected voices.
