Producer Matthew “Mappy” Wilson Celebrates Birthday, Elated After Working With the World Boss: “A Huge Boost of Motivation for Me Personally”

As dancehall producer Mappy of NSG celebrates his birthday, he remains committed to his growth on the scene. In recent months, he has been deliberately pushing creative boundaries, blending textures and moods across a steadily expanding catalogue of projects. His work spans collaborations with a range of artistes, including Vybz Kartel, D’yani, Jafrass, and more.

“These days I’ve been experimenting more sonically, trying to blend unique sounds together,” he explains, pointing to tracks like D’yani’s “Answer (Pookie)”, Jafrass’ “If I Could”, and the beats for “Guapi” and "Wifey For Lifey" for legendary Vybz Kartel as examples of both his personal growth and the label’s evolution.

Alongside singles, the producer and composer, who is also a former footballer, remains busy, with the upcoming release of dancehall artiste Jafrass’ sophomore EP, Maestro Don’s Damaged Goods EP, and the recently completed Monument Riddim juggling. The project features singles from Demarco, Skeng, Jafrass, Kyodi, Bayka, along with several emerging voices he is eager to bring to the forefront.

That momentum extended to another level with his recent work involving dancehall legend Vybz Kartel - an experience Mappy admits still feels surreal. “Honestly, I can’t really describe the feeling because it wasn’t something I thought would’ve been possible as yet, and it happened out of nowhere,” he shares. The collaboration has served as both validation and fuel, especially given Kartel’s stature within the culture. “It’s been a huge boost of motivation for me personally, as you already know Kartel is the World Boss literally,” he said, adding, “Both tracks have been amazing in feedback, and I have to big up Redboom, as he really made everything connect.”

Mappy, whose given name is Matthew Wilson, is currently working on several projects, including a leading project with recording artiste D’yani, who he believes represents the blueprint for sustainable success. “D’yani is a special talent. Rarely you find an artiste that can sing so easily, but I think his vision is what really sets him apart,” Mappy says, emphasizing the singer’s intention and discipline when constructing records. That partnership continues to deepen, with the official video for Pookie already shot and set for release this month.

Looking ahead, Mappy remains driven by the idea of breaking new talent while expanding his global footprint. “I’m really envisioning bringing another young artiste to the forefront as we did in the past, that’s what really excites me,” he notes. “The future definitely has some international prospects in the works, but I’d also love to work with Sean Paul, Govana, and Tommy Lee.”
