Netflix is gearing up to launch a new soccer documentary about one of the greatest footballers of the early and mid-2000s, Ronaldinho Gaúcho. The project, titled “Ronaldinho: The One and Only,” is set to premiere on April 16.
The three-part documentary about the eponymous star blends never-before-seen archival footage with exclusive access to Ronaldinho’s present-day life, offering a deeper look into the journey of one of the game’s most beloved figures. The series explores everything from the dazzling brilliance that lit up stadiums across the world to the humble dirt fields in Brazil where new talents are born.
The legendary Brazilian playmaker won the coveted Ballon d’Or during a career that saw him become a global superstar for FC Barcelona, dazzling fans with his creativity, flair and infectious joy for the game. Produced by Canal Azul and Trailer Films, the documentary tells the story of how a boy from Porto Alegre conquered the world and became one of the most decorated footballers in history, while also reflecting on the triumphs and more delicate moments of his career.
“This sport creates a unique connection with audiences. These are stories born on the streets, in neighborhoods, within families, spanning generations and reinforcing a sense of pride,” said Elisa Chalfon, Head of Nonfiction at Netflix Brazil.
The Ronaldinho series forms part of a trio of Netflix documentaries celebrating Brazil’s deep love for the beautiful game. The other projects, “USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory” and “The Root of the Game,” are both scheduled to arrive ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
As one of football’s most influential and entertaining figures, Ronaldinho’s story joins the growing list of documentaries exploring the lives of iconic players such as Lionel Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, and Vinícius Júnior, offering fans a closer look at the personalities who helped shape the modern game.
