After 14 months in charge, Manchester United have dismissed head coach Ruben Amorim following a series of public criticisms aimed at the club’s hierarchy.
The Portuguese coach launched a pointed attack on Old Trafford’s leadership after a 1–1 draw with Leeds United, claiming he lacked the financial backing to fully implement his preferred 3-4-3 system.
In his latest press conference on Sunday, Amorim also stated that he “joined Manchester United to be their manager, not their head coach,” comments that reportedly accelerated the club’s decision.
The 40-year-old's time at Old Trafford ended with a record of 25 wins, 15 draws and 23 defeats across all competitions.
That record places him among the club’s least successful managers in the modern era, with only Frank O’Farrell faring worse. O’Farrell, who was sacked in 1971, recorded 30 wins from 81 games-a 37.04 per cent success rate.
Manchester United have confirmed that Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher will take charge of Wednesday’s game against Burnley.
