The former Portmore Empire dancehall diva drops Soul Cry and teases more music with Vybz Kartel after her Freedom Street performance

Lisa Hyper’s ‘Soul Cry’ ushers in a new era
Following her standout performance at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street concert on New Year’s Eve, dancehall artist Lisa Hyper is now unveiling a more introspective side with her latest single, Soul Cry, which was released on January 17.
Known for her bold and provocative style, Lisa Hyper takes a different approach with this release, fearlessly embracing vulnerability and raw emotion. “I didn’t have to process my thoughts to write the lyrics because Soul Cry was created from an experience. All I had to do was go into the voicing booth and record the experience that literally made my soul cry,” shared Lisa Hyper.
The former Portmore Empire artist boldly proclaimed, “Why not a song like Soul Cry? Some music is created from inspiration, imagination, and experience. Soul Cry was created from an experience, and I made a promise to God that I would give Him praise, not only in my room but in some of my songs, and Soul Cry is one of them.”
Soul Cry is a collaborative effort by UK-based Omar Murphy of Foreigners Invasion, Donald Barnett of Levels_LVL, and R0twist, real name Romario Henry, of Levels To Life Productions, based in New Jersey. “Working with Levels was exactly what I expected. The respect was there, the connection was there, the understanding was there, and the creativity was there. I had no problem at all," added Lisa Hyper.
The release of Soul Cry comes at an opportune time following Lisa Hyper’s cameo performance at the recent Freedom Street concert, held in honor of Vybz Kartel’s release from prison after 13 years of incarceration. “It was a great feeling sharing the stage with Teacha again. I was overwhelmed, joyful, grateful, and elated,” the deejay said.
With several hit collaborations with Vybz Kartel already under her belt, Lisa Hyper says there’s definitely more to come. “Most definitely, there will be new music from us together. He has already spoken to me about it, so my fans can look out for that too.”
