Rudolph Speid Appointed Interim Reggae Boyz Head Coach Ahead of 2026 World Cup Play-Off
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has announced Rudolph Speid as interim head coach of the Reggae Boyz ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 inter-confederation play-off in March, where Jamaica will face New Caledonia in the semifinals.
The announcement came on Friday after JFF President Michael Ricketts convened a meeting with the executive and technical committees to confirm the interim appointment. Former national senior assistant coach Miguel Coley and agent-coach Craig Butler were also considered among the leading contenders. The JFF has also begun negotiations with Coley’s representatives regarding a possible return as assistant coach.
Speid brings an impressive résumé. He currently serves as Chairman of the JFF Technical Committee and head coach of Cavalier F.C., leading the club to Jamaica Premier League titles in 2021, 2024, and 2025, along with the 2024 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup crown.
He expressed his willingness to take charge following the resignation of Steve McClaren, who stepped down on Tuesday night after Jamaica failed to secure automatic qualification with a 0–0 draw against Curaçao.
The JFF confirmed that Speid’s interim contract will run until March 31st, 2026, carrying him through the upcoming play-off campaign. After the March assignment, the federation will evaluate the results and make a final decision regarding the long-term head coach, with the option of appointing a foreign coach still under consideration.
