Jamaica Joined by U.S., Mexico, and Costa Rica in Joint Bid to Host 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Jamaica has officially joined the bid to host the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup alongside the football federations of the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica. The tournament will follow FIFA’s plans to expand the competition to 48 teams, making the 2031 edition the first in history to feature the new format

The Jamaica Football Federation, together with those of the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica, announced on Monday a joint bid to host the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which is planned to be the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 teams.

In a joint post, the four federations shared a video declaring, “Four nations. One shared commitment.” later in their statement, the federations said the proposal aims to deliver “the most impactful tournament in history,” with a vision to leave a lasting legacy for women’s football across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean

“We’re incredibly proud to be leading this bid for the 2031 Women’s World Cup alongside our Concacaf partners in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica,” said U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone in the statement. “We’re excited to drive lasting progress for women’s soccer by creating a legacy that reaches far beyond 2031 and sets a new global standard for the sport.”

FIFA previously confirmed plans to expand the Women’s World Cup from 32 to 48 teams, adopting a 12-group format that will increase the number of matches from 64 to 104 similar the structure of the expanded men’s World Cup in 2026.

The United States, Mexico, and Canada will co-host the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which is the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 teams - for which Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz are currently striving to secure their ticket.
