Newcomer 1Journey leans on peace and positivity

In a time when reggae continues to evolve, 1Journey steps forward with a sound that feels both familiar and fresh - soulful like Erykah Badu, yet purely Jamaican.

Her debut single, “Stop the War,” is a gentle call for peace, love, and unity - a reminder that healing starts within. With a voice that glides between roots and neo-soul, I can attest that 1Journey is Reggae’s next revelation.

We sat down with her to talk about the message behind the song, her creative process, and the path she’s walking toward musical greatness.

Drawing influence from an early age, she shared how spending time in church helped shape her musical journey. “From I was small, honestly. I’d be in my room just experimenting, trying to find my own sound,” she said. “I grew up in the church, part of the music department. It kept me grounded. Plus, my uncles did music too,” she expressed, echoing that music is “in the blood.”

Speaking about her vocals and tone, 1Journey explained that it didn’t just happen overnight. “It took time and growth. I wrote my first song in 2020, and that’s when things really started to flow.”

As a singer inspired by reggae icons such as Bob Marley, Sizzla, and Chronixx, 1Journey describes her sound as a fusion of styles. “I’d say it’s a mix of reggae with a bit of neo-soul. Also, my messages are always based on positivity,” she shared.

As mentioned, 1 Journey stays rooted and dedicated to her message, drawing influence from the artists she grew up admiring. “They’re my biggest influences. I feel and keep that in my music. The message, the energy - it all connects,” she said.

Speaking on her debut track “Stop the War,” produced by Rise and Shine Production, the message is as clear as the title suggests. “The need for peace and unity. I just wanted to remind people that love still matters,” she explained. “It’s not just about fighting - sometimes it’s the war within ourselves. I want people to choose peace, love, and good energy.”

Discussing the production process, 1Journey expressed gratitude for the team behind the record. “They made the process really easy for me and I’m very appreciative.” The single also comes with a music video - her very first. “Honestly, I was shy! (laughs) My first video ever, but I held it together,” she admitted.

Despite her initial shyness, she still appeared confident on screen - a reflection of her growth as an artist. “Growth in progress,” she said with a smile.

With her debut single now released, 1Journey hopes to leave a lasting impact through her music. “Something timeless. I want people of all ages to find comfort and meaning. Music is more than we think,” she shared.

Before we wrapped up, she left a heartfelt message for the youth: “Be kind, be loving, and stay focused. Even when it gets hard - especially then. Love yourself, trust the process, God will handle the rest.”

“I’d say it’s a mix of reggae with a bit of neo-soul. Also, my messages are always based on positivity.”
