Dinho Da Rastaman Turns intended demo into chart-climbing success
When reggae artiste Dinho Da Rastaman recorded the song "Fallen For You," it was originally intended as a demo. Little did he know that the track, released in March, would take off and make a strong impression on music fans.
“I wrote this song during the time I was shooting the video for another track of mine called Cherish. It's about me falling for the girl in that video. I didn’t necessarily expect the song to be well received, but the response has been overwhelming, and I’m extremely grateful for the support,” said Dinho Da Rastaman.
He added, “This track was supposed to be just a demo, but my manager fell in love with it and believed it had potential, so we ran with it. The song is performing well outside of Jamaica, and the feedback has been very positive.”
Fallen For You has peaked at #15 on the New York Reggae Chart, climbing from #18, and has remained on the chart for the past seven weeks.
“It is very humbling and an honor to gain recognition outside of Jamaica. It’s always a special feeling to be acknowledged locally, so for my music to reach and do well in New York is amazing,” Dinho Da Rastaman shared.
Originally from Manchester, the 34-year-old musician and singer was introduced to music at an early age through Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage—from ska and rocksteady to reggae.
He began his musical journey performing in local bars and nightclubs before moving on to the cabaret circuit, where he performed multiple shows each week.
“I’m a yute who used to write under banana trees in Mandeville and later moved on to performing on stages across Jamaica. I’m a completely original artiste who had to leave the countryside to follow his dreams. Along the way, I’ve been inspired by the likes of Bob Marley, Damian Marley, Protoje, Chronixx, and Paul ‘Lymie’ Murray,” he said.
Dinho also shared a highlight of his journey: “The highlight of my career is seeing people learn and sing my songs from start to finish. Witnessing those moments is truly special and makes all the work worth it.”
