For US-based recording artist Deportee, being able to positively add to the Dancehall genre has been his goal since he ventured into the industry.

During a recent trip to Barbados, the artiste joined forces with St. Mary’s own Ricky Ten and emerging Bajan talent Lonerealness for a powerful new single titled “Hurt People.”

Blending conscious lyricism with infectious rhythms, the track explores themes of systemic and social injustice while aiming to entertain and educate listeners at the same time - a balance Deportee says reflects his purpose in music. “I met Lonerealness when I was promoting a show called Yardy Bajan Vybz and his authenticity and delivery are what led to this collaboration today”, he shared.

For Lonerealness, the collaboration represents more than just music. “This single is a step forward toward us as artistes creating something greater than ourselves”, he said. “It's about unity, pride, and showing the world the strength of our collective voice.”

The three teamed up for an official music video, set to premiere alongside the single, which aims to attract global attention. Deportee describes the collaboration as part of a broader effort to foster unity among nations. “This project goes beyond borders,” he added. “It’s a reminder that through music, we can strengthen our collective identity and inspire change.”

This collaboration isn't the first for Deportee and Ricky Ten, as the two have recently joined forces to launch an official Record Label in St.Mary earlier this year called Akbar Music.

With the majority of their recent release being under their Akbar imprint, Ricky Ten and Deportee are steadfast on their mission to release positive music as well as provide a gateway for up and coming artistes.
