Amen (L) and Ausar (R) Thompson could be a major addition to Jamaican basketball team
Rising NBA stars and twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson were hosted by the Jamaica Basketball Association and the Bob Marley Foundation in Kingston on Sunday, where they announced their interest in representing Jamaica in future international competitions.
Amen, recently named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team after an impressive season with the Houston Rockets, and Ausar, who played a key role in leading the Detroit Pistons to their first playoff appearance in six years, have begun the process of acquiring Jamaican citizenship. Both are eligible through their father.
If successful, the Thompsons could join LA Clippers guard Norman Powell, who has already committed to representing Jamaica in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Americas Pre-Qualifiers, scheduled for August 8–10, 2025.
The Jamaica Basketball Association is also targeting other NBA talents, including Phoenix Suns center Nick Richards, Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart, and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Josh Minott.
