Downsound Entertainment, the team behind the biggest reggae and dancehall night on earth, Reggae Sumfest, will stage a special event this year themed “A Taste of Sumfest,” slated for July 18. The event will bring together two of the genre’s most influential icons, Vybz Kartel and Mavado, former rivals who defined a generation and will now share the stage once again in a historic moment for dancehall.

The event will not be held at its regular beloved venues, Catherine Hall and Catherine Hall Stadium, as major hotel properties are still reopening and key infrastructure remains under repair following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in 2025, which led to significant damage across the area. As a result, hosting the festival at its historic capacity is not yet viable.

Together on one stage, the dancehall giants will revisit the historic moments that shaped clash culture and redefined an entire generation on the global stage.

The one-night, high-impact cultural staging is designed to maintain brand momentum, support Western Jamaica’s rebuilding efforts, and deliver a historic dancehall moment anchored by two of the genre’s most influential figures.

“This concept is not framed as rivalry. It is positioned as unity. They are coming as friends,” shared Karla Jankee, Executive of Marketing, Events and Hospitality at Downsound Entertainment. “We spent time thinking about how to produce the event this year. Rather than pause the brand, we chose to evolve it.”

The DSE team has decided to adapt by finding a temporary location and transitioning from the traditional seven-day, eight-event festival to a one-night ‘Taste’ of the Greatest Show on Earth, Reggae Sumfest.

The historic night will bring together dancehall giants Vybz Kartel and Mavado for the first time in Jamaica in nearly 20 years. The reunion is also heading overseas this year, with two sold-out shows already announced in Malta under the Freedom Street brand and more dates possibly on the horizon.
