British-Jamaican rapper Stefflon Don has been a vocal advocate for raising awareness about the ongoing crisis in Congo, frequently sharing posts on the issue and recently supporting the Solidarity for Congo concert held in Paris on April 22.
The event brought together artists, members of the diaspora, and the public to highlight the devastating crisis unfolding in eastern DRC.For over 30 years, millions have endured a conflict driven by the greed for the region’s vast mineral wealth. Civilians — including women and children — face daily violence, sexual assault, attacks, and repeated forced displacement, with millions now living in extreme destitution.
“Congo produces 60% of the world’s supply of cobalt and is the largest producer of this rare metal, crucial for making batteries used in mobile phones and electric vehicles,” Stefflon Don shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account in January. “My heart goes out to all the oppressed humans living in a world filled with greed and a lack of empathy for humanity. All these apps are simply here to distract us from the issues that truly need our attention.”
Despite Congo’s rich resources, the local population continues to bear the heavy cost of a war that enriches armed groups and foreign interests, while the international community remains largely silent.
Stefflon Don, who is also set to feature on an upcoming remix of the viral hit "Shake It to the Max" alongside Ghanaian-American sensation Moliy and World Boss Vybz Kartel, was among those present at the Paris event, with all proceeds going toward supporting those affected by the crisis.
