It was a bittersweet moment for Jamaican superstar Shenseea, Skillibeng, and Ghanaian-American sensation Moliy as their smash hit remix “Shake It to the Max” lost to Tyla’s “Push To Start” in the Best Afrobeats category at the MTV Video Music Awards, held at Long Island's UBS Arena on Sunday night.
All the nominees who contributed to the Billboard Hot 100 colossal hit attended the event, including producers Silent Addy and Disco Neil.
Moliy later shared her first reaction on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Lose Today, Win Tomorrow.” On her Instagram story, she added that they were “Winners in My Book.”
Shenseea, who stunned on the red carpet, made history as the first Jamaican woman to earn two VMA nominations, following her 2022 nod for Push Performance of the Year.
“As a Push artist, I gained so much more support, so much more motivation to keep on going,” she told the VMAs during her interview on the red carpet.
But the impact of the hit is still undeniable. Another piece of evidence came on the night of the awards, as the “Shake It to the Max” remix was revealed to be featured in a new Burger King commercial.
